Performances by the University Philharmonic Orchestra, Cultural Association, The University of Hong Kong (UPO, CA, HKU). Established in 1999, UPO, CA, HKU is one of the leading student-led university orchestras in Hong Kong. The Orchestra currently has over 100 members from different backgrounds, including undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as alumni, with Dr. Gabriel M. Leung as our music director.
The Orchestra aims at promoting Western classical music and providing a platform for musicians to develop and showcase their talents. We also strive to cultivate an atmosphere of music appreciation both within the University and throughout the community-at-large.
The Spring Concert in April to May and the Annual Performance in November have evolved into yearly traditions of the Orchestra. We are also frequently featured at university events organised by the Centre of Development and Resources for Students (CEDARS), the Development and Alumni Affairs Office (DAAO), and various faculties, departments and societies within the University.
Beyond campus, the Orchestra actively engages in external collaborations. Recent highlights include partaking in the HKGNA Music Festival 2023, Ishin-Denshin 2024 by the Hong Kong Doujin Philharmonia (HKDP), and the UNNC Spring Concert 2025 by the University of Nottingham Ningbo China collaborated with the Ningbo Symphony Orchestra (NBSO).
